I accidentally a gear change to third when starting moving and stalled. No smoke but smells like rotten fart came out. Is this safe?

(FYI I'm serious. Did I smell burned clutch?)

When I was learning to drive stick, I burned the clutch once. No smoke either, but it was a very distinct smell. Might be the same problem.

What gear did you go to third from?

Should be OK if it only happened once. I toasted the clutch on my Prelude a few times when I first started learning to drive stick thing lasted 140k miles.

you might have taken a little life off the clutch but otherwise I'm 95% sure you'll be fine

You should be fine unless the clutch was on its way out to begin with.

Starting out in third? Yes you do smell burnt clutch but it's alright. You are perfectly fine as long as you don't make a habit of it

Nah, you're probably good.... I've seen people stall in the most spectacular ways when riding with the beginner drivers in college, and nothing of consequence happened.

I also accidentaly a gear change today, except it was in an automatic car and I tried shifting, and it jammed and I thought for sure I'd broken it, hahahah...

Oh that would have sucked... Good job saving it by instinctively going for the invisible clutch. *joke*

Heh, I totally did actually, slammed my left foot on the brake and all. At least I was just pulling into a spot, and not in traffic, hahahah...

What kind of car? Most cars have enough power (or torque) to launch in third.

Well this little mishap I stalled pulling out into traffic in front of a cop and the police department so I kinda stalled 3 times in my panic. (Each time in third of course)

No problemo. And when it comes down to it, it's just a friction disc they can be replaced.

Ah, so you tried launching from third, then? Launching from second or third is actually a pretty common mistake, pretty much every new driver around here does it at least a few times, so I wouldn't worry too much about mechanical damage. :)

Interesting. Normally it would just stall if you didn't apply enough juice to get it moving. Not sure why it would make that burning smell. It's new enough to still be under warranty though!

Probably just the clutch. I accidentally do that sometimes and it's always fine.

Like everyone is saying you'll be fine.

The "fart" smell is most likely from lugging down and stalling the engine, because if it stalled, then the clutch didn't slip much.
